Hereford and Worcester's Breakfast Events

The Hereford & Worcester WWT Group held two breakfast events to promote their message. The meetings were held at The Courtyard, Hereford on
23 September 2009 and Worcester Warriors RFC on 24 September 2009.   Both were well attended by the small/micro business sector with several companies signing up for membership.

Both meetings were opened by the H & W WWT Group Chair, Andy Wheeler, who eloquently explained the purpose of the group and how it planned to help the small business sector gain knowledge and training.

Tony Woodward, the Worcester based HSE Inspector, forcibly presented the HSE's current strategy and targets for the construction industry. They are obviously on the case for safe and good practice and will not tolerate short cuts. He stated that during the next few months the HSE would be targeting asbestos removal contractors, roofing contractors and crane suppliers. He advised the audience that there was a desire to create a national register of cranes.

Dave Meseck, from Business Link, West Midlands was the last to speak. His bias is construction, building technologies and the built environment. He presented a talk on business planning, HR and other relevant issues to help companies understand how they can prepare for the future demands on the industry.

The events were very well received with all delegates making commitments to review their business activities to improve safety across all areas. They also submitted a wide range of topics they would like to cover at future events. The event also offered places on asbestos awareness courses, which were well received and taken up by all delegates. There were 36 places accepted in Hereford and 37 places in Worcester. The WWT Group are now busily organising these events, sourcing speakers and venues.
